There are many different domain name extensions to choose from – but which one to choose? Well, in my honest opinion, I believe that your first choice should be .com. Why? .com is the most popular TLD (top level domain) on the Internet, and everybody knows it.
In fact, the .com, unlike many other TLDs, has simply become a part of us all and is generally used for commercialized businesses and websites. Even if your website isn’t a business, it doesn’t necessarily mean .com isn’t for you.
There are many people who use .coms for their own personal hobby sites. Simply put, it just sounds and looks more professional than if they were to go with other extensions such as .net or .org.
That being said, you should always look for the .com version of your name before you seek out other choices.
If the .com version of your name has been taken, don’t worry just yet. There are alternatives.
.net and .org are generally the second domains of choice, however it’s really up to you. There’s also .info, .me, and newer .co, but once again, it’s your decision to choose which extension you want. Keep in mind that not all domain extensions cost the same price. Some are more expensive to register.
