3 Tips on Choosing the Right Domain Name

Finding the right domain name is perhaps one of the most difficult things to do when starting up a new website. Many webmasters that I know of simply do not know how to select a proper domain name. A domain name is really one of the most important aspects of a website. I personally believe it can make or break your website, and can significantly affect its success in both long-term and short-term moments of its life.

In this post, I will share with you three brief, yet very essential tips on how to properly choose your domain name.

Keep it Short
Your domain name should be short and simple. Don’t make it too long, and try to avoid using multiple words in your domain name. The most number of words you should have in your domain name is a maximum of 3 – 4 words. Anything above that is a huge no-no. People really don’t fancy typing in long names into their web browser address all the time, so keep it short and simple!

Keep it Memorable
Your domain name should also be very memorable. It shouldn’t require any effort to remember what it was. It’s a known fact that domains that are memorable get a higher percentage of returning visitors. Take our domain for example – YoungDomainer.com. It’s easily memorable for anybody who is young and into domaining.

Keep it Brandable
Apart from being short and memorable, your domain name should also be brandable and unique. Don’t make it generic. Make it something you can easily say and talk about. The more brandable it is, the more memorable it will become too. Essentially, you’re killing two birds with one stone if you keep it brandable.
